"Can a prayer be a question only answered with a sin? Hallelujah, Amen."
It's the nature of a life-of-faith that it ebbs and it flows and runs the gamut of emotions... and is full of questions with fewer answers than I'd often like... I believe in freewill, I believe in God's ability to step in and do things without interrupting freewill... but it doesn't always make sense to me... I also believe in personal responsibility..... and I also believe that sometimes you throw a question out and hear only crickets... and at those times I throw my hands in the air in frustration and make the choice to keep believing... to make an honest attempt at humility--even as I'm frustrated, pissed off and maybe even rolling my eyes at myself and the whole THING... and just admit outwardly that yes, I'm not God. God is. And that I'm still thankful, penitent, and willing to curb my pride (as much as possible) and give props even when part of me doesn't want to.... which is why by the last chorus I have to scream this little prayer.
To me this is one of those spots where the rubber meets the road when following Christ. When you wanna take no responsibility and give Him the finger, instead you pull yourself together and pray the opposite. Knowing deep down that what makes Satan, Satan is that he gave God the finger forever and ever amen... not the way to go, I think.
lyrics
HALLELUJAH, AMEN
(Adam Watts)
I'm not the man I used to be
High on belief
Watch me bleed
The one I used to love to hate
The most willing slave
God I miss that cage
And I've paid my dues
Licked my wounds
But nothing kills the rage
(Chorus)
What part of me has to die to live
Thought I was already born again
Can a prayer be a question
Only answered with a sin
Hallelujah
Amen
Hallelujah
Amen
And in my conscience there's a hole
That broken door of denial
It flows like water
Spreads like fire
Breaks my will
Frays my wires
(Pre-Chorus)
And I've paid my dues
Licked my wounds
The last resort is I pray
Chorus
Amen
Amen
